As Content Manager of Translation you will be accountable for managing an operations function within Content Operations team, working in close collaboration with all leadership levels in Content Operations and the wider business units across all our strategic locations. You’ll play an integral role in executing our strategy for development and future growth. You will actively participate as a key business partner in the development of new and existing content, technology strategies and solutions that align with the business and operational goals, and create a culture focused on execution, delivery, and performance. 

The IP Content Operations team processes over 7 Million patents each year from across the globe, providing customers with competitive intelligence insights and supporting next generation analytics for patent content through the delivery of:

  • Patent bibliographic normalization, correction and enhancement including generation of DWPI patent families connecting global patent activity
  • Patent summaries content, providing accurate business critical information across the innovation spectrum to give customers clear insights to the innovation disclosed, helping them identify white space for future innovation and access to critical information that is often only available in patent sources.
  • Patent Indexing including Classification and Manual Coding, and Deep Indexing of Chemical, Polymer and Biosequence entities for the IPG and Science Group content sets, delivering high precision and recall of relevant patents and entities, guiding customers to the most relevant patent data to address freedom to operate, patentability, innovation white space and competitor intelligence business opportunities.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse global team to support content processing and direct customer value add.
  • Create a culture that is focused on execution and performance. Ensure key performance indicators for quality, timeliness and completeness are established and delivered, with reporting, best practises, and robust quality control to drive continuous improvement.
  • Set and execute a clear operational strategy, including development and operational standards and SLAs that create a robust set of processes (manual and automated) for operational needs.
  • Help define and manage the departmental budget for all expenditures and headcount.
  • Build a customer-focused Content team and develop an environment which stimulates innovation.
  • Play a key leadership role on major decisions and initiatives in a manner that will enable the Content Function to achieve its long-term objectives.
  • Identify and deploy best in class tools to enable effective processing of data/content sources.
  • Establish a dynamic management structure capable of change for a new key organizational vertical in a fast moving, matrixed environment.
  • Act with velocity and focus to promote the services of the Content organization and determine how business partners and customers can leverage its expertise and tools including any mergers and/or acquired companies.
  • Communicate key initiatives to senior management, set timelines and manage expectations for all deliverables and releases.
  • Work cross functionally to form and manage strategic relationship with stakeholders including but not limited to Content Operations and Content Technology, Product Managers, Analytics, Program and Quality Management and vendors.
  • Anticipate and react to major industry and technology changes to ensure the continued company leadership in this competitive landscape.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Strong leadership, collaboration, motivation, and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and persuasively with a variety of stakeholders in different geographies.
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in a global corporate setting; with a minimum of 3-5 years at a management leadership level or equivalent experience in project or process leadership.
  • Ability to roll up sleeves and lead the team from front, a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills capable of timely decision making under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and lead through change, to make decisions in a timely manner despite risk and uncertainty.
  • Ability to solve problems, focus on what’s important, eliminate blockers and define priorities. 
  • Excellent process management capabilities with a strong focus for identifying opportunities for synergies and simplification of complex processes. Knowledge of Agile processes and delivery preferred.
  • Excellent management skills in particular defining clear objectives and accountability, monitoring progress, measuring results, and delivering timely and objective feedback.
  • Demonstrating perseverance and courage to achieve goals even when faced with resistance or setbacks.
  • Creating a culture of success, motivating, and developing colleagues to achieve their full potential.
