Job Overview:

The Events Director is a senior member of the Oliver Wyman Global Events Team responsible for the development of regional strategic event plans, successful program management and delivery of high-quality events.  This role works directly with the Global Head of Events and closely with the Regional Chief of Staff and Head of Marketing to design strategic event plans focused on supporting the evolution of events and growth in the region. The ideal candidate will be someone who not only possesses expertise in event planning but also has a track record of rolling up their sleeves and seeing projects through to completion. This position requires the ability to work cross-functionally, managing multiple stakeholders, and navigating various markets and offices. The candidate will also partner with key stakeholders to develop a portfolio of events that deliver innovative, high impact corporate events, highlighting OW brand and values.  This involves a wide range of client-facing and internal meetings across the firm, including Marsh McLennan and Oliver Wyman Group. 

What you will do:

Proven ability to design, develop, lead and manage strategic plans and initiatives, presenting complex information with confidence

  • Has an ownership mindset, able to manage competing demands efficiently and effectively
  • An influential, thought leader with a strong network of suppliers, hotel groups, destination contacts and industry peers
  • Risk mindful, anticipates challenges and suggests and implements practical solutions
  • Produces high quality work with minimal guidance or input, both individually and within the team with wide discretion to take action consistent with firm processes and policies
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders and gain alignment across markets, offices and Industry teams – supporting internal as well as external clients events
  • Works with fellow team members to establish event practices and contribute to the broader development of processes and procedures.  Shares ideas around innovative event solutions that optimize event impact
  • Solid management of event budget with deep understanding expenses, tracking and budget reconciliation.  Ability to report costs in a timely and accurate manner
  • Is viewed as an expert on event planning, design and delivery
  • Ready to support in whatever capacity required to ensure event goals are achieved
  • Works with Office Leaders and other leadership teams to establish effective event practices and offer innovative/creative solutions as the event expert
  • Develops a deep understanding of firm processes and strategic priorities to ensure the events and engagement plan are consistently aligned with the key leadership messages/priorities to be communicated
  • Showcase a keen aesthetic sense and creativity to ensure that event designs align with the firm’s branding and culture
  • Travel as required based on event schedule.  Approximately 25% of the year including some weekends

What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 10 years of event planning management and planning experience
  • Strong operational knowledge of event websites, virtual platforms, mobile apps, registration systems, engagement tools and technology including latest trends
  • Comprehensive understanding of supplementary event requirements such as event insurance and risk assessments
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, teamed with the ability to deal with people at all levels across a multicultural and multinational environment
  • Proactive and relentless in the pursuit of excellence and does not sit on the sidelines
  • Effective collaboration across multiple functions and contributors to agree on setting event goals, objectives and measurement of success 
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality
  • Leadership and staff development experience
